Teton Wilderness 2013 is Underway!

This past Thursday we embarked for the Teton Wilderness. We departed bright and early for base camp near Moran, Wy. When we arrived, the entire crew was up and ready to help us saddle and load our gear up. We began on our long horse ride with blue skies and a slight breeze, perfect riding weather. All along the way there were inummerous signs of wildlife: elk, deer, moose, bear and wolf tracks, bald eagles, and many others.

When we arrived at camp there was a hot meal ready (ribeye steak) and others there ready to help us unsaddle the horses.Friday and Saturday consisted of fishing as the Yellowstone Cutthroat were swarming upstream to the head of Altlatic Creek to begin there spawn. With an average fish around 20 inches in length, each strike was paired with an intense arm-burning fight. After each day, we came back to a hot meal waiting for us at camp. Trip two will commence June 27th with a focus on the Yellowstone and Thorofare Rivers. Check in next week for our report!

With such spectacular scenery, the horse ride home was a depressing one. Each individual there wished they could have stayed longer. Overall, this year’s fishing experience has been a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
